Sugar from diet and bacteria found in the mouth can cause dental cavities.
These cavities are repaired using fillings. Fillings are also used to repair broken teeth or replace fillings that have chipped or fallen out. There are two types of fillings- direct or indirect.
Direct fillings are of two common types, metal (silver) fillings called amalgams or plastic white fillings. White or tooth coloured fillings are the most popular option as they are natural looking i.e. no one can tell that you’ve had a filling.
Indirect fillings are referred to as onlays or inlays, and are custom-made and then fitted to your teeth. They can be made of precious metal or white natural porcelain to match your tooth colour.
